Four Must Visit New England Wineries

We have an embarrassment of riches in New England when it comes to places to visit with day trips or weekend get-a-ways. One activity that I was blown away by are the tours and tastings at some of the local wineries in New England.

Here are four that you definitely should plan to visit, but to be honest there are literally dozens more!

Nashoba Valley Winery

I was amazed at how large the faculty and grounds were the first time I arrived. Nashoba Valley Winery boasts, a tasting room, wine shop, large comfortable porch and grounds with a panoramic view over their vineyards with lawn chairs and a gazebo! This is selfie heaven.

Of course the wine alone is worth the trip. Their list of products is impressive and they absolutely make something for everyone. I tend to lean towards Rieslings, Cabs, Merlots, Pinots and Chardonnay, and theirs are crowd pleasers.

However, I really head towards their sweet wines, heavy on fruit local to New England. I always sample the Azule, a Blueberry Port Style Wine that will redefine what a sweet wine can be without hitting you over the pallet with sugar. Their Cyser apple wine with a hint of honey is extremely popular, finishes very clean and not as harsh as ciders can be.

They also offer a full selection of beers and spirits, including even Grappa!

Flag Hill Distillery and Winery

Located in Lee, New Hampshire, Flag Hill is a full working farm like many wineries. Their wines and spirits are crowd pleasers and I was surprised at how affordable they are compared to similar products.

A few items that are must tries are:
Josiah Bartlett Barrel Aged Apple Brandy and it has a kick,
just for the experience of white lightening the White Mountain Moonshine,
and the crowd pleaser is their Apple Cranberry Fruit Wine.

My personal favorite is their Sugar Maple Liqueur which is not overly sweet, but really delivers in the true maple flavor. (Note: I am drinking this while writing this blog)

Truro Vineyard and South Hollow Spirit

A must visit destination on Cape Cod, I could spend the day relaxing in their open air tasting room and drinking Painkillers with fresh nutmeg from their out door bar.

When we visited, we were lucky enough to get to video their bottling process for their signature Lighthouse Bottle. (Video Below)

To say this is picturesque destination is an understatement. The wines and spirits are sought after, especially their cranberry blends for holidays year round.

My personal favorite, their Twenty Boat Spiced rum. The spices that are most forward are vanella, chai and corianders which sets the product apart from all other runs I have tried. Great over ice or to really kick up a cocktail. (Such as a Painkiller…)

Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery

BONUS Buzzards Bay Brewing is also owned by the same people and only down the road.

If you are making a day trip to Westport Massachusetts, first stop at Perry’s Bakery for morning pastries, you wont be disappointed.

At Westport Vineyards, you will find a two story tasting room, white raised fireplaces and beautiful views of the vineyard. Try the Farmer’s Fizz, a sparkling red blend that is only available in limited qualities.

Buzzards Bay Brewing is only down the road, with 4 out door fire pits and a three seson tent to host events and bands on Friday Nights.

And on the way home, a stop at restaurants like Marguerite’s or Ten Cousins is a must.
